Dil Walon ki Dilli

Delhi the capital of India is a very fascinating place which is full of culture and diversity. It attracts people from all over the world. The city has a charm and it incorporates all of India inside it from its rags to the riches. Delhi has a very rich heritage which makes it a perfect tourist place with lots of  perfectly carved monuments which dive deep into the history of the place. Some of the great historical landmarks include the Red Fort which was commissioned to be built by Shah Jahan on 12th May, 1639. On 15th August, 1947, the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian flag in the red fort. Every year on independence day, flag hosting is done by the prime minister at the main gate and a speech is delivered by him. Next we have Qutub Minar which was commissioned by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the founder of Delhi sultanate in 1192. It was completed by his successors, including Iltutmish and Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The minar is a major tourist attraction, drawing millions of visitors annually due to its historical significance and architectural beauty. Humayun's tomb is another splendid example of mughal architecture which was commissioned by Empress Bega Begum, the widow of Mughal Emperor Humayun, in 1569-70. India Gate is one of the famous monuments which was erected to mark the martyr hood of thousands of soldiers who gave their lives in the wars fought between 1914 to 1919. The building is a beautiful looking structure which is a symbol of Delhi. On weekends people gather around the memorial and take pictures. There are a lot of tourists who come to India to visit and admire the beauty of these world heritage sights and to learn about them.

Delhi is a paradise for people who love shopping, you get everything from luxury brands to roadside shops. Lajpat Nagar is my personal favorite as it has both national and international brand outlets as well as cheap stores with a variety of products ranging from basic clothing to décor and much more. Other popular markets include Sarojini Nagar which attracts middle-class people as it has a lot of cheap products. It is famous for selling '1st copy' or duplicate products of famous clothing brands at a much cheaper price. I remember how happy I used to be after getting 1st copy Ray-ban goggles and Puma t-shirts as a kid. Khan market is popular among upper-middle-class people in Delhi. It has good books shops, clothes retail shops and other retail outlets. The market is centrally located near the India Gate.

People who love street food are definitely gonna love Delhi as it is the hub for all kinds of delicious street side delicacies. It offers a diverse array of flavors that reflect the city’s rich culinary heritage. Some of the mouth watering dishes which people crave for are Chaats, Golgappe, Chole Bhature, Parathas, Rabri Faluda and much more. Chandni Chowk which is one of Delhi's oldest and busiest markets is famous for its street food and mainly for its Paranthe Wali Gali which offers different types of stuffed paranthes. Karol Bagh's chole bhature and samosas are a must try. Lajpat Nagar is famous for its momos and chaats. Connaught Place is the central hub of Delhi which remains mostly crowded in the evenings where people come to shop and have good food. The area is filled with several street food vendors and shops which makes it a perfect place to hang out. South campus of Delhi University is also a popular area among students which has numerous vendors selling affordable and tasty street food like tikkis, momos, and rolls.

Overall Delhi is a beautiful place with beautiful people in it. If you have not yet visited Delhi, I would recommend you to plan a trip to the capital as soon as possible so that you can enjoy the beauty of the city with your own eyes and savor your taste buds with the amazing food there.
